Grow the Nation.
After our 20th anniversary we're coming of age with some big plans ahead
including initiatives in education, touring, new digital projects and more.
We want you to be part of it.
Coming of Age
Canada has officially turned
159
and Six String Nation is now
20!
That means we're in our
21st year.
While 21 doesn't mean what it used to across the country, it does still mean 'coming of age' just about everywhere. And that's what we're doing this coming year - with new education and curriculum initiatives, speaking tours around the country, fresh performance and collaboration opportunities and work already begun on a new digital exhibition - perhaps even a new book!
Just a few of the ways we're working to build the Nation
01
Education
- We're developing robust curriculum packages for every jurisdiction in Canada covering everything from history to geography to social studies to STEM.
- We want to establish a travel subsidy fund so that all communities in Canada can afford to bring the Six String Nation experience to their school.
02
Performances & Collabs
- A spectacular multi-performer, multi-cultural presentation-performance already done and documented in Toronto, a multi-city western tour soon to be announced and other shows in the works.
- Several artists in line for writing and recording projects with Voyageur this coming year. We want to fund even more.
03
Digital Innovations
Phase one full 3D scan of the guitar articulating each and every element separately using the Creaform HandySCAN BLACK laser scanner at WAMIC, Niagara College, is now complete. Still to come:
- Phase two: "Skinning" of the scan to replicate precise colours and textures
- Phase three: WebGL design and implementation to make the digital twin accessible via this website and other web or related applications
- Phase four: design and construction of a kiosk-based exhibit
- Phase five: a fully immersive, room-sized installation allowing visitors to literally walk through Voyageur

Books
The original Six String Nation book was published by Douglas & McIntyre with a print run of 7500, which sold out. A further thousand were printed by Harbour Publishing when they bought the D&M imprint and they sold out. A further thousand were printed, of which only 80 copies remain. We're exploring:
- an expanded second edition of the original book
- a brand new book with a new publisher
- a children's book to help bring the story of Voyageur to younger audiences
